About Dr. Michael Rothman button

After graduating with honors from Washington University in Saint Louis, Dr. Rothman earned a masters degree in psychology from Columbia University’s Teachers College in 1994. He worked as a researcher and therapist before returning to school to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology at The Derner Institute of Adelphi University. While there he concentrated on insight-oriented and short-term psychotherapies as well as sibling, twin, and couple dynamics.

Dr. Rothman trained at the highly acclaimed APA-accredited psychology internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. In 2002, upon completion of his internship, Dr. Rothman was asked to join the faculty at Beth Israel, where he engaged in supervision, research, and clinical practice. He held positions in outpatient general medicine where he taught and consulted with physicians regarding the intersection of medicine and psychology, and in the outpatient psychiatry clinic where he was heavily involved in the training and supervision of psychology trainees and psychiatry residents. While there he rose to a leadership position and was appointed the Director of Training for the Psychology Externship program. In 2010, Dr. Rothman left Beth Israel to pursue a full time private practice. Dr. Rothman remains on the voluntary faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and continues to provide lectures and supervision to psychiatry residents.

Dr. Rothman has presented his work both locally and at international conferences. He is a co-author of book chapters on psychotherapy and supervision (in Clinical Strategies for Becoming a Master Psychotherapist and in Casebook for Clinical Supervision) and is frequently sought out for consultations pertaining to twins. A twin himself, Dr. Rothman has both written about and given talks about twins. His insights into twins and siblings have been featured in multiple publications including the twin book One and the Same and 100 Simple Secrets of Happy Families.
